Flying over the world-famous Mount Elgon in Uganda, the eye is caressed by billowing forests, lively rivers and majestic mountain waterfalls. As local legend has it, Mount Elgon is home to the gods themselves, who, whenever they’re in a good mood, send down some cooling rain to the people below. The steep slopes of the mountains have been blessed with fertile soils for centuries, so it’s probably safe to assume that the gods are still in excellent spirits. The local farmers hailing from the Bugisu tribe have learned to take advantage of this divine goodwill: they use it to cultivate some of the finest Ugandan coffees. Who knows: perhaps it’s the aroma of premium coffee beans that has been keeping the gods so blissfully happy?
